yessssss

Here's a band that I've been listening to on repeat: Via Audio. They're from Brooklyn but met at Berklee college in Massachusetts.

Their myspace is a little underwhelming in terms of audio selection but definitely check out their CD (called Animalore). I'd start with the tracks

Tigers
Happening
Olga
Summer Stars
Oh Blah Wee

They're very easy to listen to and perfect for spring weather walking. It'll put you in a good mood...hopefully.

Stop. Action. Animation. Stop.

Found this great explanation of how they made the movie Fantastic Mr. Fox, directed by Wes Anderson. I really enjoy his aesthetic (Royal Tenenbaums, Darjeeling Limited etc) and how it carried over into stop action animation with puppets. He has a very distinct style.

Fantastic Mr Fox. 621,415 frames taken. This is how:

shortz

Saturday, some Oscar nominated animations were shown at Amherst Cinema so I got to see some funny shorts including this one:

Also got to see this (The Lady and the Reaper or La Dama y la Muerte):

A lot of the films were cute and funny (French Roast, A Matter of Loaf and Death [Wallace and Grommit], Partly Cloudy by Pixar), but the others were surprisingly disturbing (Runaway, Logorama) or emotional (The Kinematograph). Highly suggest you check them out. Interesting to compare the selection by animation style.

lightning, from the top of a cloud

How I ended up revisiting Norah Jones' album Feels Like Home and remembering how much I like this song:

Seeing Mates of State at Iron Horse on Friday(great concert, they are too cute/ happy/ married+ making music together), they played a Tom Waits cover called Long Way Home which Norah Jones also covers on the album where this song is from. It's quite nice to listen to late at night.
